Annette Funicello has died at the age of 70. October 22,1942 – April 8th,2013

Annette has been suffering from multiple sclerosis for 25 years and has not been in the public limelight for quite some time due to her illness. She was hospitalized due to complications from her battle with multiple sclerosis and died Monday, April 8th,2013. Annette’s family confirmed this to Extra today.Her family were by her side when she was taken off life support systems.

Funicello’s only daughter, Gina Gilardi, said in a statement, “She’s on her toes dancing in heaven… no more MS. My brothers and I were there, holding her sweet hands when she left us.”

Disney’s official fan club broke the news on twitter about two hours ago.
The Fan Club says Annette died at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield,California.

Annette Funicello was only 12 years of age when she became a Mickey Mouse Club Mouseketeer.

As a teen Annette rose to fame as a singer, an actress and was extremely popular in the mid 60’s with Frankie Avalon in the “Beach Party” series.

Walt Disney took Annette under his wing after seeing her perform as the Swan Queen in Swan Lake at a dance recital at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank,California and made her a household name with the very popular tv show.
